Noise from Industrial Sites is playing an ever-growing role with planning authorities. Application for a development or installation of new plant on an existing development that has the potential to cause noise disturbance to existing residential properties will require a Noise Assessment.

BS4142 provides the method of assessing industrial noise in areas where there is existing residential accommodation. The assessment can cover extraction systems, air conditioners, industrial plant, refrigeration units and general use of industrial buildings.

Local authority control on noise emissions through planning can mean that the insulation of plant & machinery can be an important part of achieving sound pressure level limits, either at the site boundary or at nearby local sensitive receivers.
