fire risk assessments

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force on 1 October 2006 in England and Wales replacing the Fire Precautions (Amendment) Regulations 1999 and the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997. In Scotland the relevant legislation is the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.

The main consequence of the latest amendment is that every place of work is now covered by the Regulations. It is now incumbent upon employers and persons responsible for the building, eg Landlord, to ensure adequate measures are taken to comply with the requirements of the Regulations. This may mean providing fire fighting equipment, smoke alarms or fire alarm systems in addition to ensuring that there is adequate means of escape in case of fire. It is also necessary to carry out Fire Risk Assessments on all work premises and this risk assessment must be a written document if five or more people use the premises. It is also a criminal offence not to comply with the requirements of the Regulations.

We are able to carry out Fire Risk Assessments to identify measures needed to comply with the Regulations. We can then also arrange for the implementation of the necessary measures to ensure compliance.
